Quebec Artist Botanical Blockprints

My name is Sarah, an open-minded artist who has found her home in the vast forests of Canada. My love of nature runs deep, so it is no surprise that it is reflected in my passions and my art. From this love, I create botanical block prints. I believe that this fascination and sense of wonder for diversity is something universal, regardless of where we call home.

While living on different continents, I noticed something beautiful: the same patterns, the same plant families, and natural cycles repeat themselves in different forms. This observation, along with the ancient knowledge of plants, fungi, and living beings, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for my art. In the wild nature of the Laurentides, I slow down and find a connection to the beauty of simple things. Being able to live in this place fills me with great gratitude. Preserving its diversity is a central impulse of my artistic work.

My motifs come to me when I walk through the forest with my dog, work in the garden, get to know a medicinal plant, or simply sit under a tree and listen to the birds. I take time to observe. And then I transform what I see into visual art using the ancient technique of block printing. The entire process has something magical about it that touches my soul. I work with both linoleum and woodcut techniques. I carve my motif into the blocks, apply non-toxic oil-based printing ink, and then transfer the image onto handmade paper using a press. I can never fully predict how a print will turn out, which makes the process so fascinating. It is a beautiful act of trust that reflects the rhythm of nature.

Thank you for being here and seeing the beauty of nature too,

Sarah
