Shelter Monoprint

Handmade linocut print

Dimensions: Letter
Printed on lokta paper using Caligo oil-based relief ink

This intricate linocut print titled “Shelter” depicts a powerful contrast between nature’s sanctuary and human destruction. An Amanita mushroom serves as a protective canopy for woodland creatures and delicate flora below, while atop its cap sits a city under bombardment.

Created using the ‘reduction method,’ this technique involves carving a single lino block in stages to build up layers of color. Here 4 layers have been created.

The detailed carving showcases the intricate relationship between our world’s dualities – destruction and protection, urban development and natural habitat. The print offers a thought-provoking commentary on how warfare not only impacts humanity but devastates our environment, highlighting our collective need to address the climate crisis alongside political conflicts.

All my artwork is handmade and original with a mix of limited and open edition linocut prints plus digitally printed greeting cards. The prints are designed, made, pressed and pulled in my studio in the Laurentides, Canada.

Please note: Because of its handmade nature there may be tiny variations to the picture- be this colour, evenness of ink or other small differences.
