Handmade linocut print

Dimensions: Letter
Printed on lokta paper using Caligo oil-based relief ink

In this botanical portrait, Madame Printemps embodies the season’s generous offerings. Her flowing hair intertwines with ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea) and lady’s bedstraw (Galium verum), gradually transforming into vibrant rhubarb (Rheum rhabarbarum) leaves. Her elegant dress forms from unfurling fiddleheads (Matteuccia struthiopteris), also known as “tĂȘtes de violon.” Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) flowers frame her silhouette. Behind her, delicate wild leek (Allium tricoccum) blossoms illuminate the background like stars.

Each plant featured is both edible and medicinal, emerging as winter’s grip loosens—nature’s perfect remedies for our bodies during seasonal transition. These first green gifts help us adapt as temperatures shift, offering both nourishment and healing.

Created using the ‘reduction method,’ this technique involves carving a single lino block in stages to build up layers of color. Here 8 layers have been created.

This print honors the ancient wisdom connecting women, healing plants, and the cyclical return of light and warmth.

All my artwork is handmade and original with a mix of limited and open edition linocut prints plus digitally printed greeting cards. The prints are designed, made, pressed and pulled in my studio in the Laurentides, Canada.

Please note: Because of its handmade nature there may be tiny variations to the picture – be this colour, evenness of ink or other small differences.
