Hi, I’m Sarah, a multicultural artist who has made her home in the vast forests of Canada. My roots to nature run deep, so it’s no surprise that the love I have for the natural world shows in my life through my passions and art. This connection led me to study energy-efficient architecture, and now influences the way I create art – always with sustainability and mindfulness at the heart of my practice. I believe that the wonder and reverence I feel for nature speaks to something universal in all of us, regardless of where we call home. And who knows, maybe through connecting with nature’s beauty, people will be inspired to take better care of this precious world we share – because when we learn to love and protect our environment, our respect for humanity grows too, embracing everyone regardless of where they’re from, what they believe, or who they love.

Over the years, as I have traveled and lived across various continents, I discovered my path to slowing down this hurried world through visual art. During my journeys into the unknown, often far from family and familiar places, I found something beautiful – there are always the same patterns, the same plant families and natural rhythms that I recognize, no matter where I am. By observing ecosystems, like the mycelial networks of fungi, I find endless inspiration for creating art that bridges the gap between our fast-paced world and the natural rhythms we’ve forgotten. Through the years I experimented with different media, like canvas, collage, and digital art. Sustainability is an essential part of my process – I often reuse and recycle materials, making my own paper or repurposing cardboard as canvas to give new life to discarded elements. Through art, I seek to reveal nature’s vulnerability while sparking awareness and reflection. At the intersection of creativity and social critique, my work challenges how we engage with our environment and with one another, inviting a shift toward connection, responsibility, and a deeper appreciation for the intricate world we are part of.

After exploring the digital world of art, I found myself craving something more manual and real. I discovered printmaking, and it drives me like nothing else. There’s something magical about the entire process that speaks to my soul in ways other mediums simply can’t match. My printmaking focuses on relief printing, working with both linocut and woodcut techniques. I hand-carve my designs into linoleum or wood blocks, a wonderfully meditative process that demands patience and focus. Then I apply nontoxic oil-based ink to the carved surface and transfer the image onto archival, hand-torn papers using an etching press. What captivates me most about printmaking is the element of mystery it holds. You can never fully predict how a piece will emerge until you pull that first impression from the block. It’s a beautiful leap of faith that echoes nature’s own unpredictable processes. The magic of printmaking also lies in its capacity to create editions. Once a block is carved, I can pull numerous prints from it, making original artwork more accessible and allowing more people to bring nature-inspired art into their everyday lives.

Mother Nature has all the healing for us
if we just learn to listen
