Reduction Print<\/em><\/p>\n

The trout lily has its common name from the brown speckled pattern on its leaves, reminiscent of a brook trout’s markings. These wildflowers emerge in early spring, taking advantage of the sunlight before the forest develops it’s canopy.<\/p>\n

Trout lily offers a mild peppery flavor that brings a delightful wild element to spring salads. The fresh young leaves and bulbs are edible, though harvesting should be done sparingly to protect native populations.<\/p>\n

All my artwork is handmade and original with a mix of limited and open edition linocut prints. I design, carve, press and pull the prints in my studio in the Laurentides, Canada.<\/p>\n

This reduction print celebrates the intricate beauty of the trout lily (Erythronium americanum), a woodland gem. In spring this little plant appears and offers mild peppery flavor to spring salads.<\/p>\n

This print was created using the \u2018reduction method,\u2019 this technique involves carving a single lino block in stages to build up layers of color. Here 7 layers have been created. With this technique, a little more is carved away from the printing block after each layer of colour, so that only one edition can be printed. Once the print is sold out, it will never be available again.<\/p>\n

Each print is designed, carved, and hand-printed by me in my small workshop in the Laurentians. Because of it\u2019s handmade nature, slight variations in color and print may occur. These small differences are exactly what make hand-printed works so special and beautiful.<\/p>\n

I print on handmade Lokta paper, and each sheet has its own unique character. This makes every piece truly one of a kind<\/p>\n
